1. Installer applet : When I try installing Dekoh Desktop, I get a popup asking me whether I really want to run this applet (sample images below). Should I click on the Run/Trust button? If I do, will my computer be open to attacks?

The popup informs you that the installer applet is asking for permission to download and install Dekoh Desktop on your computer. When you click Run/Trust, it will download the application and install it on your machine.

Typically, you allow such operations only from trusted sources. The Dekoh installer applet is signed and verified by a Verisign security certificate, so that users can be sure that they are downloading the application from a trusted source, and installing the application will not open their computer to any attacks.

2. My installation hangs forever - the progress bar says Done and nothing seems to happen.

You may face this problem sometimes because of your browser's cache, for example you may have a previous version (copy) of the installer on your machine. You must clear your browser's cache before re-installing Dekoh. Follow the given steps to solve the problem:
  • Clear your browser's cache:
    • Internet Explorer: Go to Tools >> Internet Options. Under the Temporary Internet Files section, click the Delete Files button >> Check the Select Delete all offline content option >> Click OK.
    • Windows/Linux : Firefox >> Tools >> Options >> Privacy >> Cache >> Clear Cache Now
    • Mac: Safari >> Empty Cache >> Click on Empty
  • Check if Dekoh is partially installed. Refer the Installation Directory Structure for this. If it is, navigate to the following directory (depending on your platform) and delete it from your machine, before reinstalling Dekoh.
    • Windows -> C:\Dekoh
    • Mac -> Users/<your user name>/Dekoh
    • Linux and variants >> <your home directory>/Dekoh

3. My installation process pops up a dialog box saying "Main class not found. Program will exit"

This problem is probably occurring because of the reasons mentioned above. Follow the instructions given in 2. above.

Additional notes: Your installation may take longer than usual if you have a slow network connection. If your network connection is erratic, you may have to restart the installation process.

4. When I click on the Dekoh Desktop icon on my desktop, I get an error saying "There seems to be an existing C:\Dekoh which does not seem to be valid. Please delete it and reinstall Dekoh Desktop"

This means that you have probably installed an earlier version of Dekoh and some files are missing from the installation. Please delete the Dekoh directory, which is different for different Operating Systems and reinstall the application.

5. I have installed Dekoh for the first time, and try to access the "My Desktop" link on my Dekoh net home page, I get an error "There was an error in starting the application." What do I do?

This typically happens if you have deleted any files inside the Dekoh instalaltion directory. This may also happen if you uninstall and reinstall Java in a different location.

6. When I try to install Dekoh for the first time, I get an error saying "Installation cannot proceed if you don't allow the program to run with all permissions. Please close your browser and open this page again."

This means that while installing Dekoh, when the applet security warning came up, you clicked on "No" or "Don't Trust" (depending) on your browser.

You must allow the installer applet to install Dekoh Desktop on your computer. Close all your browser windows, and open the installer page again. Click on "Trust" or "Yes" when the applet asks for permissions, this time.
To know more on this, read the installation help

7. When I try installing Dekoh, I get the following warning, which says "Certificate Not Verified". Clicking on OK displays another page saying "Installation cannot proceed if you don't allow the program to run with all permissions. Please close your browser and open this page again."

You get this error if you are running the beta version of JDK 5. This version of JDK has a bug, http://bugs.sun.com/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=5056088.

Since this bug has been fixed in the later versions of JDK, please use the upgraded versions of JDK as recommended by Dekoh. You can download JDK from http://www.sun.com/.
