Problem installing Worpress

Hi,

I encountered problem while installing Wordpress. Downloading PHP and SQL went successfully, then unpacking also went successfully, but after appearing of a line "Installing Wordpress" installation stopped.

I use WindowsXP and Firefox2.

I also tried several times to uninstall and reinstall Dekoh desktop, but of no avail.

What should be done to install Wordpress? Is there some hack or should I wait for a new version of Dekoh?

Hello,
Do you already have an existing installation of MySQL on your computer? If yes, the installer will not install MySQL but will connect to that existing installation.
Could you check if there is a folder called C:\Dekoh\mysql ? If yes, it means that MySQL was installed, but might not have started for some reason.
It would help if you could post some more information like the contents of the file
C:\Dekoh\server\nodes\default\logs\stdErr.log

There was earlier some MySQL installations on my computer, but before installing Dekoh desktop I removed those installations.

Could you check if there is a folder called C:\Dekoh\mysql ?

There is folder C:\Dekoh\mysql, but it is empty.

It would help if you could post some more information like the contents of the file
C:\Dekoh\server\nodes\default\logs\stdErr.log

From the logs it appears that MySQL failed to install for some reason, and as a result WordPress too. Could you please try the following
1. Delete the mysql folder inside C:\Dekoh
2. Attempt to install WordPress again (it should download only WordPress and MySQL - PHP should already have been installed earlier)
3. Give some time for the installation to finish. The progress bar might stop with the message 'Installing WordPress' for sometime, but please let it complete (we're working on improving the progress bar) and return to the Dekoh portal main page.

If it still does not install or hangs/takes a long time, request you to send the output of the C:\Dekoh\server\nodes\default\logs\stdErr.log file _without_ restarting Dekoh or attempting to install it again (to avoid overwriting it).

Hi,

I did everything as you suggested, but did not succeed installing Wordpress.
Instead of installation only message 'Installing WordPress'. mysql folder inside C:\Dekoh was not created.

We are not able to pinpoint the problem from the logs. However you can try the workaround mentioned below -

1. Access these two URLs
http://www.dekoh.com:80/samples/download?compid=http://www.dekoh.com/ns/component/generic/MySQL&compversion=5.0.37
http://www.dekoh.com:80/samples/download?compid=http://www.dekoh.com/ns/component/app/WordPress&compversion=2.1.3

- They point to the MySQL and WP binaries. Save them in some location and copy them to C:\Dekoh\server\downloads. Restart Dekoh (the restart might take some time while mysql installs).

I have two questions and one suggestion:

Why Wordpress Windows-only? Do you plan to make it available on other systems?

Why search for installed MySQL? If I have, for example, EasyPHP or Xampp installed and later I decide to remove it, MySQL database will be deleted together with WordPress tables, isn't it?

To have WordPress installed on top of Dekoh desktop is very interesting experiment, but it would be much more interesting to have some powereful and flexible CMS installed, for example MODx from modxcms.com. With CMS you can develop much broader rage of applications than with such blogging engine as WordPress. I think you should either make some poweful CMSes available as installation options or to develop some easy way for users to install them.

Querywise,
1. The PHP and MySQL downloads are platform specific. The current packaging to install Wordpress, PHP and Mysql together as a single click bundle is available only for windows. We might have a Linux bundle in the future.
2. Your point is valid - however this alpha release of Dekoh was just to showcase what is possible with the Dekoh platform. In a future version we will have functionality to install a WP-private MySQL.
3. Thank you for your suggestions - we shall definitely try it out.

How can i setup my php and database?

I cant find where is located mysql.

You do not need to install PHP and Database separately - when you choose to install WordPress it will also install PHP and MySQL by itself.
When you click on the Install button for WordPress it will show you the dependent software - viz. PHP and MySQL. Clicking on 'Install' will automatically download and install all three.
